I plan on analyzing www.northcarolinacharm.com for my first blog assignment of rhetorical analysis. In case some of you do not know, a rhetorical analysis is a close reading that involves the interactions between a text, an author, and an audience. The purpose of a rhetorical analysis is to analyze and explain how the different elements (text, audience, and author) work together to achieve the author’s point.
To help me analyze this blog, I will be using North Carolina State University’s TH!NK's Intellectual Standards for Critical and Creative Writing. The two best intellectual standards that Carolina Charm encompasses is significance and clarity. Christina, the author of Carolina Charm, embodies these two intellectual standards throughout her blog by having relative importance within all of her posts and having her blog be easy to understand and free from confusion. She also applies great organization and understanding in Carolina Charm.
I have taken several Advanced Placement classes in high school as well as several college courses through the local community college. Therefore, my background knowledge on writing rhetorical analysis is average, but I will use the skills that I have learned within the past four years of high school to help myself write my first Unit Project post. As I compose this project, I would like to find out where my weaknesses as a writer are and how I can fix them. I would also like to learn more about the context within Carolina Charm, like how to make Black Bean Chili and how to create my own burlap and lace air appliqués.
