For my first real blog post I am going to be exploring the blog, visitRaleigh, through rhetorical analysis. Rhetorical analysis is a term that formally means breaking apart a non-fiction work and examining how the specific choices that the author or authors have made help them to achieve the goal they have set for their blog. It is a way to better understand authors’ intentions and see the purpose of the blog more clearly.

As a writer, I am not the most experienced, but I have spent a good amount of time writing in my english classes and I have experience doing rhetorical analyses. One of the qualities that I admire about visitRaleigh is its relevance and its breadth. Most, if not all, of the information found on this blog relates to Raleigh. It shares information about fun things to do in Raleigh for entertainment purposes, for dining, for information about history etc. It does not branch off from the main subject or often go on tangents like many other blogs may and it also does not have too many “in your face” advertisements. As briefly listed above, the blog has a wide breadth of information. It has activities for all ranges of interest within its target audience.

While rhetorically analyzing visitRaleigh, I hope to uncover some cool places and some possible experiences in Raleigh. I plan to become better at doing a rhetorical analysis of blogs and other literary media. Ultimately, I want to improve my writing skills.
